deep ellum & roanoke texas

right near downtown in east dallas is a neighborhood composed largely of arts and entertainment venues called deep ellum. this day was pretty special for me because i got to spend the whole day with my hermanita ("little sister"), ashley, who became my tour guide, picking me up from keller and driving us all the way to downtown dallas.  we didn't get to visit any art galleries or listen to live music, but we did eat a nice brunch at cafe brazil and explored vintage/antique shops around the area that reminded me a little of my hometown, austin, texas.  after our little excursion in deep ellum, ashley took me to grapevine for some frozen red wine sangria and then we headed to roanoke, a small town near dfw for some fried chicken (and cream corn) at babe's chicken dinner house! if that wasn't enough, we ended our night with deliciously moist chocolate chip cupcakes and lots of good-bye hugs (and some tears).

i already miss this girl. with hermanita, i feel like i can truly be myself.
